The Big Issue In The North (BIITN) and Oxjam Manchester are combining forces to support National Poetry Day.
Oxjam Manchester will feature 4 winning contestants from BIITN’s first annual poetry competition to perform their work at the Oxjam Manchester Takeover festival (25th of October).
The BIITN poetry competition is still looking for ‘enthusiastic amateurs’, ‘published poets’ or individuals that have ‘never written a verse before’ to enter before World Poetry Day on the 8th of October.
The theme for this year’s National Poetry Day is Heroes and Heroines.
Dante Harker, manager of the Big Issue In The North, Manchester, said: “We are really excited to take part in such a well respected and dynamic event, it’s great that we can offer the chance of a poetry reading as an extra opportunity for our winners.”
Entry into the competition costs just £2, with all funds raised going straight to Big Issue vendors and support schemes such as the Breakfast Club, ESOL classes and The Vendor Allotment.
