Oxjam Manchester and art group unite to celebrate W8

Oxjam Manchester are teaming up with four fine art sculpture students to represent Oxfam’s W8 in a performance art piece.

The performance piece, which will feature as part of the Oxjam Manchester Takeover on the 25th October, displays a unique handcrafted oversized dress raised from the ground with a performer inside painted Oxjam’s theme colour blue.

On the ground, both live and sculptural figures will protrude from the draping fabric representing the W8. The figures will move, play music and become interactive.

Daniel Taylor, a member of the art group, said: “We feel the Manchester Oxjam festival is a fantastic opportunity for us as local artists to show art and performance as well as music in relation to world issues.”

Daniel Taylor, Helena Barrett, Hollyanda Philips and Amy Poole have previously exhibited at Manchester’s Victoria Pool.

The W8 is a group of women from Mali, Thailand, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Malawi, India, Bangladesh and Georgia that fight for health and education improvements in their countries.
